Meet Emilie! She is six years old and battled Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

Emilie was diagnosed with cancer at nine months old and had to stay in the hospital for almost a year. She immediately started treatment, and after her first round of chemo, it was discovered her leukemia didn’t reach less than 8% in her bone marrow biopsy. Chemotherapy alone wouldn’t cure her cancer, and she needed a bone marrow transplant.

Trying to find a match resulted in a nationwide search that included over 10,000 people generating no viable option. Ultimately, the bone marrow treatment proceeded with her father as the donor, who was only a 50% match. After four rounds of chemotherapy, she had her transplant and another year of chemotherapy.

Even though a donor wasn’t found through the matching process, many of the people who got tested in Emilie’s name have written to her parents, letting them know they have matched with someone else.

Emilie is loving and bubbly. She likes play dates with her friends and coloring. One of Emilie’s and her parents’ favorite memories was when she could go to school for the first time.

Emilie was recently in our 2022 Sarasota Fashion Funds the Cure event and walked the runway during her Dream Walk as a Pediatric Oncologist!
