On March 26th, 2022 we will host our 6th Thomas Luau Fundraiser in memory of our beloved Grandson – Jonathan. We’d be honored if you would join us and our family to help raise money to find a cure for CHILDHOOD CANCER.
As most of you know, our Jonathan was diagnosed with ALL in 2014 and in 2016, at the age of only 2 ½ years old, he lost his battle with the disease. Every year we host this event in memory of Jonathan while raising awareness and funds for childhood cancer research. No parent should have to lose a child!
Survival rates continue to remain very low for certain types of cancers. According to the National Cancer Institute, it is estimated that 10,590 children ages 0 to 14 years and 5000 adolescents ages 15 to 19 will be diagnosed with cancer. Both age groups combined, will result in loss of 1,780 children in one year.
Of the 117 drugs approved for the treatment of cancer by the FDA between 1996 and 2017, only 6 of them were for treatment of pediatric cancers and it takes an average of 6.5 years for a new drug that has been given to adults to make its way to trail for children. When a child dies from cancer, an average of 71 years of life are lost. And unbelievably, pediatric cancer research receives only 4% of the federal government’s funding for cancer research. More research is desperately needed to find better treatments for kids like Jonathan.
Our event will benefit the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation (NPCF), a local charity based in Tampa Bay. The NPCF funds pediatric cancer research across a network of more than 24 children’s hospitals throughout the country. The NPCF has created a “Safety Net” program of which some of the funds raised at our event will go to support families fighting pediatric cancer within the Tampa Bay area.
Once again this year we will have a Luau theme so don’t forget your Hawaiian shirts and join us to MAKE A DIFFERENCE in our community. We hope to see you on March 26th, 2022 to celebrate Jonathan. If you can’t make it please find in your heart to donate on my site “NationalPCF.org/Thomas”. (You can pre-register also). There will have Food, Drinks, Live Music, Silent Auction and Raffle items along with 50/50 this year. Together we can help give these kids a fighting chance!
With Love and Thankfulness,
Carlos and Patti Thomas
