On December 18, 2020, Mark and Ana Maria Spain, parents of Oliver, heard the words no parent ever wants to hear “your child has cancer”. This news was also devastating to those of us here in the San Joaquin Valley as Oliver is the grandson of Randy and Karen Spain. Oliver was diagnosed with retinoblastoma, a rare form of childhood eye cancer. He endured three rounds of intra-arterial chemotherapy, but unfortunately, the treatments proved ineffective. The difficult decision was made to remove his right eye. A week after the enucleation procedure, the oncologist phone with the incredible
news that Oliver’s tumor was fully contained by his eye, and that sacrificing it saved his life. Oliver fought and beat cancer.
To celebrate this great news we have decided to hold a fundraiser in Oliver’s honor benefiting the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation on September 24, 2022 at San Joaquin Winery in Madera, California.
The National Pediatric Cancer Foundation’s mission is to raise funds to advance research for treatments specifically designed for childhood cancer. Many of the treatments today were originally designed for adults and not only are severely outdated, but toxic to a child’s developing body. Many
children that battle cancer have long term health obstacles because of the harsh treatments. We need the help of people like you to make our evening of dinner, dancing, live and silent auction a huge success. We would be honored if you would help support this great event by sponsoring, purchasing tickets, or donating to help us achieve our goal. Your generosity is truly appreciated.
